Inspired by the early SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE skit, this film features everyone's favourite conically craniumed aliens. Hounded by the immigration authorities, the Coneheads continue to pursue the American dream, raising their teenaged daughter Connie in their suburban home and on weekends barbecuing mass quantities of animal .. The American sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live has spawned some blockbuster movies — The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World, for instance — but this Dan Aykroyd creation sank without trace. Aykroyd is reunited with old TV colleagues Jane Curtin, currently best known here for the sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun, and Laraine Newman for this dismal comedy about a family of aliens (Aykroyd, Curtin and Michelle Burke) trying to get to grips with life on Earth. Despite cameos from younger generation Saturday Night Live comics, such as The Wedding Singer's Adam Sandler and Chris Farley, plus an appearance from Spinal Tap's Michael McKean, the characters are long past their sell-by date, and Aykroyd and co sadly fail to recapture past glories.
"...Sweet, funny, anarchic pastiche....The supporting cast is nicely laced with dozens of present and past SNL regulars..."
Dim one-joke comedy at the expense of suburbia.
This film is totally revolving around the fact that the stars are aliens with coneheads and most of the jokes are based around this fact.
For example when she is pregnant she is 'With cone' when he catches his daughter with her boyfriend 'YOUR CONE IS TOO YOUNG!!'
You get the idea by the end of the film its all worn a bit thin!!
Worth 1 watch i suppose
I must have seen this movie a thousand times! Absolutely amazing film with brilliant acting and a magical storyline! It has some really hillarious moments and i would recommend it to anyone who loves a good laugh!
The world of movies has one or two little gems that it keeps tucked away from the braying masses and Coneheads is one such film.
Dan Ackroyd and Jane Curtain head the cast of saturday night live legends. The film is a none stop cavalcade of great situations, well written alien perceptions of our customs and totally literal snapshots of the way -we -the human race live our lives
To describe the film - I would call it an adventure comedy with a bit of a love story with some great observational humour
No swearing
very few sexual references
A great family film !!!
Rent it
Very funny one for all the family.
I thought this was a very good film , at first its a little hard to understand the aliens played by Dan and Mary but soon you get used to them and like them.
Theres alot of social commentery going on here such as to do with immigration laws plus more sutle things liike a very very stupid clerk at the motel room who just accepts the bizareeness of Dan and doesnt question his strange writing on the check in card nor the whole Cone head.
For the reviewer that said that this films joke is all based on cones?.. didnt qutie it see it that way , yes obviously as they have cone shaped heads there are jokes about it , but its doesnt revolve aroudn it!
This is a good enjoyable film thats quite funny not laugh out loud all the time but its just one of those pleasnet movies you remember from years gone by with a good feeling and keeps you smiling throughout .
Light releif comedy , good stuff!
Plus a very young Adam Sandler cameo!

An absolute classic movie to remind every twenty-something of the kind of film they watched on a sunday afternoon in thier youth! Flawless acting by Dan Akroyd and Jane Curtin, give a humourous convincing alien posing as a human, definitely one to put in your selection for a rainy sunday afternoon
If you like comedy sci-fi you've just got to watch this! Featuring Dan Ackroyd (Ghostbusters) this classic comedy will have your sides splitting! Probably one of the best films that has ever been released!
great snl sketch conversion to a movie
dan is excellent finest film he made for a long time sadly didnt do any good movies since
great family fun even if its a little dated cool movie
I love this film; its in the same ilk as Galaxy quest: Great comedy, great special effects, script & acting. Just watch it!
I liked this alot because its got great comedy acting by Dan Aykroyd and some other actors and that that I can't remember.
Ok the good things about first, not so original script but the acting in it more than makes up for it.
The other good thing about it is the way that the Coneheads come up with a whole other vocabulary, thinkiing up different things for the words we use.
Plus its got a good soundtrack, one being notable codachrome-great.
But there's one major flaw to the film and I've already mentioned it.
It's the aliens supierier knowledge that they use against us humans sometimes they just talk about it to much and it makes the abit well 2 quirky and just a little bit boring.
But it's still worth checking out though.
They should give you a 'libretto' with this movie so that you can keep up with the fun ~ its hard work having to constantly rewind to catch the last flawless and priceless quip. My jaw ached and my settee needed dry cleaning.
