Chances are that if you are here, you have already have seen this film. If you have, it is definitely worth revisiting, and if you haven't where have you been?

Works on many levels, as a great drama and as a thought prevoking take on faith in our lives.

For me, who as a teenager read the Carl Sagan book I was very pleased with how well it was handled. From the script through to the casting and on to the performances - superb. If there is a better cast in a movie I havent seen. Foster, McConaughay and Skerritt are the leads I suppose but it is the glue of John Hurt, Davis Morse and James Woods that hold it together for me.

Stand out moments for me are the opening galactic pullback, Little Ellies slo mo run up to the bathroom to get daddies medecine (how did they do the mirror reflexion?), the steadicam jodie foster chase into the lab which finishes with an antenna aligning and of course her ironic opening gasp of awe at the wonder of it all, 'Oh God'.

Rent it and watch it in the light of the world we now live in, rather than those simpler times of the late 90s.

How we could use a little bit of Contact now.

This film has a good story. Addressing something a lot of us probably think about. But I just feel the story went a bit lazy. Could of done a lot more with this film. Some good acting and at times exciting. But only to be let down by a lame and lazy outcome.

I'm a little frustrated as it was so close to being a 5 star but when it nearly hit all the 'big' topics it all just slipped away again. Everything builds up nicely (the pace is slow but suited the film) to the big voyage of discovery but then she lands on the alien world and this is where it all just goes a bit airy-fairy for me. It felt like it deserved a much bigger finale - we're talking about the human race finally meeting other civilizations for crying out loud! - but just wound down into comparitively mundane issues of one persons doubt and belief. Basically just a variation on the '...and then she woke up and it was all a dream' thing. The hearing at the end was particularly fuzzy and just played on the god/belief/doubt issues. They built the character up with conviction and drive and then Jodie goes teary-eyed and gets railroaded by the rather daft idea that it was all just a hoax - yes of course one satellite could fool the whole world's scientific community into building the project! I was also finished the film being annoyed that if they didn't believe her then why wouldn't they just repeat the experiment with someone else? 'Hmmm we've gone to all this massive effort and expense to build this machine but lets just use it once!'. Argh!!! To sum up - first couple of hours get 5 stars - last 20 minutes get 1 star. Still worth a watch though!

I love this film, so thought provoking and yet such a simple idea.

I remember to watch it when I'm feeling low as it reminds me that there is always someone willing to truly believe you.

I have seen this film several times and loved it each time. Jodie Foster in particular is very good but I just love the way they all introduce us to the idea that we're not alone in the universe.
