Forget about the inanities of Smokey and the Bandit, this film remains the epitome of trucking movies. Kris Kristofferson plays the heroic driver who thumbs his nose at authority and collects a disparate group of truckers for an epic journey across the US, which sees him cross the roadblocks of sheriff Ernest Borgnine. It's pretty lightweight fare for director Sam Peckinpah, but he builds an unstoppable momentum that makes you forget about the weak performances from Kristofferson and Ali MacGraw. The appalling title song by CW McCall, which is actually the source of the movie, was a massive hit at the time.

This is just a classic film from a time when things were more friendly a the good buddies pulling together films like this dont need big budgets or special effects...
Good flick, although I can't understand why some bits were cut from the video I have.
Worth a watch, if only for a laff.
