Forget about the inanities of Smokey and the Bandit, this film remains the epitome of trucking movies. Kris Kristofferson plays the heroic driver who thumbs his nose at authority and collects a disparate group of truckers for an epic journey across the US, which sees him cross the roadblocks of sheriff Ernest Borgnine. It's pretty lightweight fare for director Sam Peckinpah, but he builds an unstoppable momentum that makes you forget about the weak performances from Kristofferson and Ali MacGraw. The appalling title song by CW McCall, which is actually the source of the movie, was a massive hit at the time.

    I am trucking fan

I am a big Truck fan, so I am going to be bias..but this is one classic film you can watch over and over again.. the dvd seems to be missing scenes I am sure were in the VHS version..the reporter spoke to more truckers I am sure, but hey, if like me, you love trucks hurtling down the highway and the smokies coming unstuck... you will love it too.

The whole film is action packed, and plays with your emotions very well.

    Peckinpah Convoy to get remake

    • 09 Dec 2005

Sam Peckinpah's trucking movie Convoy is set to be remade. The film, which originally starred Kris Kristofferson and Ernest Borgnine, will be directed for the second time by John Singleton, the man behind Boyz 'N The Hood, 2 Fast 2 Furious and this year's sleeper hit Four Brothers. The original, based on a country and western song, told the story of a group of truckers who take revenge on a small town sheriff by creating a mile-long convoy. Singleton's version will be set in Afghanistan and... Read more
