marvelous film
By a customer from Bristol , 18 Jan 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
So good as a film. Many things are questionable like the family relationship of the cop and the under- analysed realty of the perpetrator of the murders. Otherwise a great film to watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

(8)For James Woods' fans only
By Ian_Hiles (48 reviews) , 23 Oct 2011James Ellroy books are not easy reads: characters are morally ambiguous, events are brutal, and they reflect parts of society that mainstream Hollywood pretends don't exist (except during Oscar season).
Taking the source material and placing it on the screen was a difficult task. It was a task that seems to have robbed the story of all originality. If you have seen one rogue cop on the trail of a serial killer movie, you've seen this one. If it wasn't James Woods, it would have been Clint Eastwood, Stallone, or probably Bruce Willis. Yes, it is so formulaic, Bruce Willis isn't the burned-out maverick cop.
This is not to say it is actually a bad film. It has a slender running time, and the performances are good. But, it has to be said, you need a little more than that to make a film memorable.- Was this review helpful to you?

Manic or What?
By Steve from Northants U.K. , 07 Mar 2009James Woods at his most intense. The guy is just so damn good at what he does. Whether you want a Cop or a Psycho, he's fantastic at both. I have always liked his manic yet humanistic style. Brilliiant. Also check out 'Salvador' 'The Boost' and 'Videodrome'.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not the Best James Elroy film
By JamesMc (134 reviews) from London , 02 Jul 2007For that you want to see LA Confidential. However, it certainly has it's moments. Like anythig based on an Elroy novel, it is bound to be dark and misogynistic, but to be fair, everyone is so broken in this that you can hardly claim he is taking side.
James Woods is brilliant, as ever, a walking bag of twisted nerves, desperate to find a killer. Good Sunday afternoon fare.- Was this review helpful to you?
