Exciting, ironic, with assured direction, accomplished performances and the tension of topic themes. This is Shakespear as relevent as you like it..

By supafukinsexy (24 reviews) , 12 Jun 2013gerard butler is a great actor, the bald dude is also a good actor, not sure i understood anything they said all the way through it, i hate shakepseare with a passion, a message to all film writers of the future, please dont make any films with ancient english speaking crap, its like reading holy scriptures and talking in riddles, clearly shakespeare was a queer who bashed the bible, where art thou n all that sh1te, so bluddy annoying!!! if theres one thing i hate more than subtitles in films, its having to put up with shakespeare bullsh1t!!!! atleast we can understand subtitles, and trust me, i cant stand being put through subtitles, thats how much i hate shakespeare, have a nice day- Was this review helpful to you?

Beginners guide to Shakespeare
By a customer , 10 Jun 2013Not tosh, but only for Shakespeare lovers I should think. Well shot and full of stars but an entire play of the Bard on film. If you are into learning about him then this may be a good start, but it is not for everyone.- Was this review helpful to you?

Watch the RSC
By a customer , 16 May 2013Good grief what tosh. Go to Stratford, go to your local theatre, go to the pub but don't set aside an evening for Coriolanus. The performances are so weighty they sink the film.- Was this review helpful to you?

Compelling action asking searching questions
By a customer , 06 May 2013This is an imaginative production by the BBC of a lesser known Shakespeare play. Setting it in a make-believe yet contemporary-feeling Rome gives it a compelling edge. The character portrayal, especially of Coriolanus and his ambitious mother, I found very searching. What drives our political leaders today? Can people really succeed in power while despising the people they rule? The shakespearean language, while in some ways incongruous in this modern setting, still came over well and at times was compelling listening. Its very style arrested attention. The rather gruesome picture of Fiennes (Coriolanus) used to promote the film may suggest it is more bloodthirsty than it is. There is a lot of violence, but more than that it questions violence.- Was this review helpful to you?

visceral & brilliant
By alan5151 (1 review) , 01 Apr 2013brilliant visceral adaption. Modern setting DOES work well (IMHO). Cast is terrific really interpret the text so its understandable. Puts 'Hurt Locker' in the shade as a portrait of man at war.- Was this review helpful to you?
