    Brilliant

I love animation, but I don't generally invest much in the characters. I watch for the cool powers and the spaceships and the explosions. Cowboy Bebop has the spaceships and explosions and the occasional supernatural ability, and it uses those things to draw you in with the sheer entertainment of the early episodes, and the later in the series come the revelations, and I actually felt for the characters.

Spike Spiegel is effortlessly cool (more so if you watch it in Japanese with the subtitles. I think the original voice actors lend a lot more to the characters.), and even Ed, the 'cute' comic character every anime is obliged to have, is handled brilliantly, and the episode towards the end where you meet her father is a standout moment.

Stylish and lots of fun, with plenty of bittersweet ambiguity throughout. Sometimes it's hard to say who the winners are, or know if an ending is uplifting or sad. And you can't miss the music; it has what is arguably the best soundtrack of any TV show ever produced, let alone that of any animated show/film.

I was sad to reach the end of the series.
