Despite a whole load of scriptwriters, producers and an impressive cast, Jon Favreau's latest is a bit of a mess.

[Highly rated reviewer]As far as I'm concerned this is the best of the pulling randoms words out of a hat competitions Hollywood has been engaging in lately,,, I can't wait for the sequel ... Zombies V's Massage Therapists... how could you not love a film featuring Cowboys and Aliens?

Disappointing SciFiBy GaryI (785 reviews) from March, Cambs , 23 Feb 2013The irony of this film is that the early scenes suggest this could've been a decent western, but its once we get into the alien bit that it all becomes a genre cliche. The aliens are monsters of course with a nasty streak and you can spot the rip offs from numerous scifi movies. So all in all its reasonably entertaining but disappointing in the final analysis and Daniel Craig has the worst cowboy hat in film history!!
OK... just...By IanStuart (10 reviews) , 18 Feb 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]It's ok... But with a strong cast, Directors, Producers and special effects, it should be better than ok... It's a great example of the old adage that you really do need a good story to make a good movie...
Yee-Ha! An enjoyable film...By JackTheLad91 (5 reviews) , 18 Feb 2013Hmm, not really sure how to describe this film! A sort of Western/Sci-Fi/Horror all mixed together, probably! That's the films main trouble, I feel, it doesn't have an identity. There's a strong cast, and Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde in particular are excellent. The script needed tightening a little I felt, the dialogue tended to wander between dull and predictable.
Don't expect a sequelBy ASDFG (18 reviews) , 09 Feb 2013Great title, great cast, great genre...but let down by a poor script. Indeed it started promisingly with what, why, how questions but unfortunately I was left asking only one of those...why? Daniel Craig was good considering he was a last minute replacement for Robert Downey Jr. Harrison Ford was miscast and Olivia Wilde wasted (Bond girl in the making though). A few scenes felt like fillers and kept asking myself what was the point of that. The aliens...well we have seen it all before (Predators & Aliens movie spring to mind). By the time C&A reached its predictable climax I was bored.
Cowboys v Aliens is great!!By Ian4 (5 reviews) , 07 Feb 2013Of course it's formulaic - that's part of the joke. Another part of the joke is that it is all acted in deadly (count the bodies) seriousness! Daniel Craig has never been better (or tougher). Watch it and see if you agree with me that this is one of the most enjoyable films of the year.
