Despite a whole load of scriptwriters, producers and an impressive cast, Jon Favreau's latest is a bit of a mess.

[Highly rated reviewer]As far as I'm concerned this is the best of the pulling randoms words out of a hat competitions Hollywood has been engaging in lately,,, I can't wait for the sequel ... Zombies V's Massage Therapists... how could you not love a film featuring Cowboys and Aliens?

A Battle Of The Two Genres Rather Than A MarriageBy CultPod (15 reviews) , 08 Dec 2012Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford go head to head with moody extra-terrestrials in Jon Favreau's somewhat uneven Sci-Fi/Western. The potential here is staggering. Great 'Popcorn' premise, respectable cast; Directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man 1 & 2), written by Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek) and Produced by Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard the controls were set to blow me away. It sadly didn't. I'm still wracking my brains as to what was missing and I can't quite put my finger on it. The first act really shines, unfortunately it seems to lose momentum and it's sense of humour, culminating in a battle of the two genres rather than a marriage. I haven't read the graphic novel but one would hope it has a little more charisma than the live action version.
Bond & Indiana Jones!!By mattyp91 (236 reviews) from Thatcham , 05 Dec 2012Probably a better comic than a movie - great idea (I'm sure the pitch meeting must have been awesome 'Cowboys and ..... Aliens!!') but not very well put together. I never really warmed to any of the characters and found it all a bit too far fetched for me - and I'm a sci-fi fan!!
Worth watchingBy a customer , 03 Dec 2012A good story with some good acting. Loads of action with a good script and characters. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford act very well
who thought this up?By olliemyers (72 reviews) from Yarm, England , 25 Nov 2012Who thought cowboys and aliens would be a good idea?
Actually not a bad film, good cast, good special effects. The storyline was just a bit lame.
Surprisingly darkBy Aspman (87 reviews) from Scotland , 16 Nov 2012Got a surprise with this one. I was expecting a fairly comical, comic book knock about with it's tongue firmly in it's cheek. It's not. It's a pretty dark action film about some nasty aliens who make an appearance in the 1800's and it's up to some wild West sorts to fix the problem.
Many shades of grey in this film and no one is a simple good guy or a bad guy. Other than the aliens who are all bad. The aliens themselves are big, nasty but not that scary. The acting is all pretty good. There is a good cast here. A warning for people with sensitive kids; this is a 12 but there are some scenes which are a little disturbing and there is gore and violence albeit from a distance
