This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine. It is formulaic and totally genre driven but it does what it does very well. At times genuinely touching and funny, the movie rises above the terrible musical talents of its main character.
Surprisingly, for a Bruckheimer film, it also raises some interesting questions regarding the hyper-sexualisation of women in current Western society. If you can be bothered to think about them....
