[Highly rated reviewer]Maggie Gyllenhaal falls in love with a drunken bum, then gets wise - fast! Well done Maggie! Otherwise, not bad, but no where close to the masterpiece script that was Walk the Line - which is I guess what I was hoping for.
eg some great, realistic scenes - desperate, ageing groupies approaching the old country singer after a gig, then spoiled when M Gyllenhaal climbs on top of him. Come on! If she is supposed to be this sort of tragic figure - nice girl goes for a drunk - they they could have had a scene beforehand with her last alcoholic husband leaving her and her son, etc.

Seen it, done it!By nodrogear (2 reviews) , 21 Nov 2011Unoriginal and predictable in almost any way you care to imagine but well acted throughout by all. Won't strain any part of your imagination.
Strumming AlongBy a customer , 12 Nov 2011Jeff Bridges does it again.
What a brilliant performance from this great actor.
Colin Farrell is not too bad either in this film. Just wanted to cut that pony tail though.
Brilliant toe tapping performance from Jeff Bridges.By Barbed (23 reviews) from STROUD , 11 Nov 2011The Fab Jeff Bridges does it again. A great character filled performance with plenty of heart. Great music and he looked the part so perfectly I would have been quite happy just watching an entire DVD of him 'In concert' as Bad Blake! (And I am not even a C&W fan!) He was such a tour de force that supporting cast seemed out of their depth, especially Colin Farrell who put in a rather lack lustre performance as a top C&W star, somehow he looked like he wished it was a Rock n roll movie!
Love the country music in this oneBy pixie (249 reviews) from Redruth , 06 Nov 2011Really enjoyed this movie, Jeff Bridges is excellent as the broken down cowboy country singer who has a huge talent, and Colin Farrell is surprisingly good as the country singer who is at the top of his game but reveres Jeff's character.
After meeting a young journalist with a small boy Blake (Jeff) changes his ways and starts to clean his life up and write tunes again. Lovely story, wonderful scenery and great music.
Worth watchingBy a customer , 29 Oct 2011Not sure you'd call this film enjoyable due to the subject matter. Well worth a watch, though. Jeff Bridges is always a class act ...
