Crazy Heart
By a customer from City of London , 26 Feb 2010[Highly rated reviewer]
Maggie Gyllenhaal falls in love with a drunken bum, then gets wise - fast! Well done Maggie! Otherwise, not bad, but no where close to the masterpiece script that was Walk the Line - which is I guess what I was hoping for.
eg some great, realistic scenes - desperate, ageing groupies approaching the old country singer after a gig, then spoiled when M Gyllenhaal climbs on top of him. Come on! If she is supposed to be this sort of tragic figure - nice girl goes for a drunk - they they could have had a scene beforehand with her last alcoholic husband leaving her and her son, etc.- Was this review helpful to you?

(172)It's not about country
By a customer , 06 May 2013I did enjoy this film and I'm glad I watched but it was quite slow and can see how someone could get bored easily. I really liked the music and wish there was more of it. You don't need to be a country music fan to like this though as it's not about that, it's more about the singers life and battle with alcoholism and how that affects those around him.- Was this review helpful to you?

Well meaning but tired and unbelievable
By mj55 (96 reviews) , 19 Jan 2013Another marvellous performance from Bridges as a bitter old alcoholic. I'm no fan of Country and Western music but actually this made no difference - 'Bad' could have as easily been an ageing rock guitarist as a once bright star in the C&W scene. Gyllenhaal's romance with the aged wreck who is on a steep downward spiral simply doesn't ring true and the story drifted off into la-la land for me at that point. Stayed with it to the bitter sweet end, but I was glad when the credits started to roll.- Was this review helpful to you?

Crazy not to give this a go.
By alilovesfilm (2 reviews) from Exeter , 22 Dec 2012Jeff Bridges is brilliant, you have to watch it several times to appreciate the subtlety of his acting skill. But then it's worth it for the Music too. I'm not a fan of country music but this made me want to explore more contemporary country. It was a simple, but good story. I can't really understand a previous reviewer describing it as hard work and tedious. I thought it dealt well with the issue of alchoholism, offering a realistic outcome. It was hopeful but not in a 'hollywood' way.- Was this review helpful to you?

Crazy Heart
By davidmay (14 reviews) from Glasgow , 23 Mar 2012This film was widely touted as one to watch when it hit the cinemas. I do not know why as it was boring from start to finish, and I say that as a big Jeff Bridges fan .It has no reedeming features other than it is played by good actors.- Was this review helpful to you?
