Victorian dilemma

This film is a mix of scientific discovery and personal tradgedy and is imbued with victorian views and principles! It explores Darwins dilemma in that publishing his theory he goes against God and his wife a devout Christian! It is almost as though he is being punished in his personal life for his beliefs! A must see film if a little long and with too many agonised close ups of Darwins face for my liking!Fine acting throughout and wonderful photography.- Was this review helpful to you?

Creation at snail's pace

So whilst I am glad that I saw it all the way through, I was disappointed that it was such a slow start and such a narrow focus. This man is buried in Westminster Abbey; this tells you how much he suffered for such pivotally important science. OK but not memorable
By PaulHappy (144 reviews) , 08 Feb 2013This movie certainly reveals the tenderness of Darwin to his wife and family. It also shows something of the dilemma he had regarding religious sensibilities and his theory of evolution - which today are not necessarily at extremes but a lot closer than people imagine. For me the film is caught in the obvious rock and a hard place - in that in trying to portray his family life and also his academic life - it fails to do full justice to either, Overall it is an OK movie but certainly nothing very memorable.- Was this review helpful to you?
