Two macabre masters - writer Stephen King and director George A. Romero - conjure up five shocking yarns, each a virtuoso exercise in the ghouls-and-gags style of classic '50s horror comics. A murdered man emerges from the grave for Father's Day cake. A meteor's ooze makes everything... grow. A professor selects his wife as a .. Read more

Wow! Is it really 25 years since this film first hit our screens? This film comprises 5 short stories, linked by a comic book. Best segments are 'Something to Tide You Over' with the excellent Leslie Nielsen playing it straight and 'They're Creeping up on You', played by a paranoid EG Marshall and cast of thousands! Worst segment, hence the four stars, is 'The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill' played by he who cannot act Stephen King (I recommend skipping over this segment). 'The Crate' and 'Father's Day', with Adrienne Barbeau (the DJ in The Fog), and Ed Harris (The Abyss) respectively, round off a near excellent film.
This collection is surprisingly disappointing do not watch unless you are seriously desperate for something to do.
god these films take me back watch and enjoy.

5 side splittingly hilarious short horror tales. Couldn't resist getting this out for old times sake and didn't disappoint. If your too young to remember/ you missed the first time round you'll probably hate it but for those who love the old classics its a must!!!

Loads of creativity as usual from Stephen King. Though he's not at his best when he does macabre all tounge and cheeck as he does here. Worth a watch if you're in the mood for an eighties horror vid.
My personal favourate story is the one starring Ted Danson and Leslie Nielson towards the end. Very original...
Well, for a start, I don't see why previous reviewers have slated 'Stephen King' as a 'bad actor'. Yeah, he's a bit sh#t! But then so is the vignette he stars in! It was never suposed to be serious in any way. Hats off to the guy for having a laugh! The guy is a legend and a totall genius so leave him alone!
As for the film, yeah, it's really only worth watching for 'the Leslie Neilson bit' and the last one with the cock roaches.
Both are really good.
If only they could mix a bit of this with 'Creepshow 2', 'Tales from the crypt' and 'cats eye'. Then it would be awsome!!!!
Whatever! Watch it, and lets hope someone Continues this trend in 2010! We've already had grindhouse?
A collection of tales penned by Stephen King and directed by George Romero that work well mostly on the comedy scale rather than as horrors. Some actors such as Leslie Neilsen, Ed Harris and Ted Danson make an appearance as mostly bizarre characters and you can't help but laugh at how they look let alone how odd they act!
This may disappoint people after a collection of short gory tales, as there really isn't an awful lot of that sort of thing in this feature. But, there are some decent make up effects by Mr Savini that again will make you chuckle rather than shiver with fright!
I was well happy to get my hands on this! Saw it years ago on some well worn VHS rental and remembered dozing while the back from the watery grave dead carried out the classic I'm in front of you now I'm behind you trick. Scared the living bejesus out of me, kicked my feet out in fright knocking my dog on to the floor! Luckily she's stuffed! Wicked stuff with a hillbilly Stephen King!
Me and a mate occassionally watch awful horror movies for a mild laugh. While the films themselves are dire, it's our own commentary that makes them entertaining.
This compilation of short films is no exception. They are absolute rubbish (as you may expect), perhaps with the exception of the Leslie Nielson one, that had some interest to the storyline. However, if you're able to laugh at awful old skool special effects, you might find the rest worth a watch.
For the horror monster fan, I recommend the third film, with the 'Evil Baboon of Death' in it. Well, that's what we called it anyway.
