Although Jackie Chan's new Hollywood fans know him chiefly for such light-hearted romps as Rush Hour, when he was in Hong Kong he didn't shy away from harder-edged material. This is a prime example: an action-packed thriller, based loosely on the real-life epidemic of kidnapping that once plagued the former colony. Chan, in a serious role playing a cop hunting for a missing businessman, keeps the comic mugging down to bearable levels, but still comes up trumps in some dazzling martial arts action, less fancy but more realistic than some of his later films.

There is less action and more acting than usual from its star in a tough and tense thriller, which builds to a satisfactory climax.

Not vintage Chan
A bit of a disapointment this one - before his Hollywood days but after the best of his Hong Kong films. As ever some death defying stunts, but they are a bit slow coming. Im still looking for a film as good as Police Story - the first Jackie Chan film I saw.

Chan strikes again
Jackie chan strikes again in this fast paced action thriller. Loved every minute of it, however it is the same as almost every other police film he has starred in, i.e police story, dragons forever. If your a fan of jackie or are into action films, you'll probably like this.

Cherie Blair has revealed that she and her husband Tony are big fans of martial arts star Jackie Chan. She made the revelation when she presented Chan with the 2005 World Diversity award, in recognition of the Shanghai Knights star's charity work, at a London hotel yesterday. The PM's wife told Chan: "I have to say the PM is a bit of a fan. He tells me that Rush Hour is his favourite."
