    Turner does nudity

The prime example of Ken Russell's desire to exploit bizarre sexual underworlds, Crimes of Passion fails to generate resonance from its sensationalist subject matter, more interested in taboo than insight.

Anthony Perkins' 'porno' priest, quoting Bible passages moments after emerging from a peep show, for example, is typical of Russell's clumsy, overstated approach. Funny? Not.

Kathleen Turner honored as Best Actress by the Los Angeles Film Critics' Association, provides some balance to Perkins' scenery munching, but she fights a losing battle with Russell's determination to shock. The film is richly grisly and fixed in its perversions. In conclusion it is a film marred by the Director's obsessive need to shock, but it's not shocking any more, just tacky.

One for the curious, not movie buffs. The divine madness of Ken Russell? I'm not so sure.
