    [Highly rated reviewer]

this dvd series is superb. criminal minds is very much like 'without a trace' and 'CSI', with a different case per episode.

the Behavourial Analysis Unit has a team of experts with unique abilities, headed by a complex, tortured and brilliant older man called Agent Gideon.

Mandy Patinkin plays Agent Gideon, an intense, quiet, but very talented criminal profiler, who puts together physical and psychological descriptions of criminals, by examining the crime scene.

most of the episodes, build up in intensity, until Gideon and his team identify and find the criminal, before he commits another crime, usually of arson, kidnapping or murder.

the episodes can be quite disturbing, as they deal with the worst kind of criminals.

Dr. Reed, who is played by Matthew Gray Gubler is one of my favourites, as although he is a genius in his chosen field, he is not a good communicator with ordinary people. you could say he lacks the social skills. this just goes to show, the human side of a character, as well as their genius.

    well worth watching.

Very formulaic and highly implausible. Absolutely no tension at all. Superficial characters mouthing predictable responses - and those irritating quotes!!!

  • Good start but lacks commitment.

The first disc in the series really wetted the appetite but when I got the second disc I realised the writers/producers had given-up and turned 'Criminal Minds' into a neat auto-formula. Opening credits with the sagely quote, finishing credits with a more cheesier sagely quote and the middle contains yet another gruesome murder.

It all looked so promising but lacks the bite and commitment of other psychological dramas.
