[Highly rated reviewer]this dvd series is superb. criminal minds is very much like 'without a trace' and 'CSI', with a different case per episode.
the Behavourial Analysis Unit has a team of experts with unique abilities, headed by a complex, tortured and brilliant older man called Agent Gideon.
Mandy Patinkin plays Agent Gideon, an intense, quiet, but very talented criminal profiler, who puts together physical and psychological descriptions of criminals, by examining the crime scene.
most of the episodes, build up in intensity, until Gideon and his team identify and find the criminal, before he commits another crime, usually of arson, kidnapping or murder.
the episodes can be quite disturbing, as they deal with the worst kind of criminals.
Dr. Reed, who is played by Matthew Gray Gubler is one of my favourites, as although he is a genius in his chosen field, he is not a good communicator with ordinary people. you could say he lacks the social skills. this just goes to show, the human side of a character, as well as their genius.
well worth watching.

Addictive!By sulkyblue (21 reviews) from Ealing Common , 07 Sep 2007I became completely addicted to this show and lost a considerable amount of sleep to it and can't really give you any good reason why. It really is just another American procedural that's followed on from CSI, with the hook here being that the team is a group of FBI profilers, traveling the country hunting serial killers, kidnappers and various bad guys too big for the locals to deal with.
One of the show's strengths is that this is a believable plot. Some of the others (CSI Miami for example) suffer from the fact that they're just too big, I expect in reality they'd spend most of their time on robberies and would not actually chase down a mass murderer every week. However it seems entirely plausible for the Criminal Minds team to be doing just that.
I think what I most like about the show though is that the characters seem real. Even the extreme characters like the genius child prodigy seem believable when surrounded by people who have kids, fall asleep on planes and make mistakes. It just felt believable that these people could get inside other people's heads and manipulate them. The slow release of information about characters is also done very naturally in a satisfying but still intriguing way.
There's the right balance of drama, intelligence, comedy and action in the episodes and there's some great guest actors playing criminals, victims and supporting characters. The stylistic blue-screen and talking to camera doesn't always work, makes me cringe a bit. But the moving through photos to a location is slickly done.
Aaaah Dr ReidBy a customer from west mids , 30 Aug 2007I had seen the odd episode on TV so decided to watch the series. Completely fantastic! I have been a CSI fan since it started but this is even better. The characters are clear and likeable. They are real and identifiable. Stories are exciting and suspenseful, and its clever how the personalities are gradually revealed.
You must rent this. It was so good I went out and bought the set, and cant wait for S2 to be released. (S3 is coming on in September!)
Aaaah Dr Reid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worth a lookBy a customer from UK , 24 Aug 2007A realy interesting insight into criminal profiling. Admittedly, the storylines all merge into one after a while and some of the characters are a little too stereotyped - the geeky but brilliant young doctor, the wacky computer whizz, the older man heading up the team with a few dark secrets of his own...all a bit familiar if you have watched many American TV series of this type.
However, the series is still worth checking out as it makes up for what it lacks in some areas by providing a really interesting insight into how a criminal profile is put together and what different behavioural patterns reveal. Makes a nice change if you have watched a lot of cop/CSI type shows.
