Exciting mix of tension and personal conflict

I enjoyed this film from start to finish. The relationship between Gene Hackman (right wing macho man with hidden complexities) and Denzil Washington (liberal academic ready to take the tough decisions) was excellent. The scene where Hackman, surrounded by compliant officers, and Washington, cautiously oppposing Hackman, debate Clauswitz was brilliant. Rarely has so much been conveyed in so few words about the relationships in a group.
Terrific entertainment with battle scenes to complement the word play.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great ride of a film

Thought Provoking
By a customer , 19 Dec 2011Wasn't sure at first, I ordered this after hearing the soundtrack and wanted to see what the film was like. Found myself being drawn in by the performances of Gene Hackman and Denzil Washington - brilliant acting by both. Thought provoking as we tried to work out which position we supported. Viggo Mortensen was excellent in the smaller part of the crew member torn between the two sides. The ending was satisfying, especially as all of us watching couldn't work out a way of bringing it all to a satisfactory conclusion. Never one for 'chick flicks' I thoroughly enjoyed this film, as did my husband.- Was this review helpful to you?

Crimson Tide - submarine action unlimited

The tension created in the action scenes made me feel I was actually on the USS Alabama submarine being forced to make the almost impossible decisions faced by the commanders. The plot which centres around a decision to fire a nuclear weapon and questions the USS navy protocol is handled with expert cinematic direction and the acting between Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman is superb.
