Critters was cheap but hugely entertaining junk food, an affectionate cash-in on Gremlins. Quite how it manage to spawn so many sequels beggars belief, but this at least sticks pretty close to the original and manages to hold on to much of the cast. Scott Grimes is once again pressed back into action when he discovers that two of the evil, spiny space scum have survived and are now a family, while Don Opper and Terrence Mann beam in from outer space to help the doubting townfolk. Director Mick Garris adeptly mixes the gags with the gore, but it doesn't quite satisfy the appetite as much as the first course.

All of the 'Critters' films are pretty good (with the exception of number three, which is dire), by the standards of such things, and this one keeps the entertainment factor surprisingly high, given the complete dearth of plot (more Critters hatch; humans and alien bounty hunters team up to get rid of them), and ropey special effects. The direction is comic in tone, the acting variable, and the creatures themselves are really quite winning. You'd do much better watching the 'Gremlins' films which these are so clearly ripped off from, but, if you must, this isn't a complete waste of time.
This is a rather good sequel to the original 80s b-movie, with just as much tongue-in-cheeck black comedy. As with the original it leaves you thinking that they could have done more with it, but still leaves you satisfied that you've been entertained for the last 80 or so minuites. If you liked the first one its worth a peek.
