The Cunning Little Vixen, a comic strip character in a local Brno newspaper, is an easy way into Janacek opera. The opera is full of glorious music based on Moravian folk themes, authoratively conducted. Thomas Allen is outstanding as the woodcutter. This is a strong production with imaginative costumes, sets and dancing.
Having read and been told how marvellous this work is I really looked forward to viewing it, but alas...
I did not appreciate the music or indeed the storyline, but let me not put others off.
