Like the advert says: New York, Same Larry. There's plenty here for Curb fans, but it's unlikely to make any new converts. As usual, Larry Charles directs the best episode here, 'Mr Softee' (in fact, it may be one of the best Curb episodes of any series) in a spectacularly convoluted plot involving Larry's childhood trauma, a chance meeting with former Red Sox player Bill Buckner, a faulty car seat and a burning building. That said, every episode has its share of classic moments, including some memorable feuds with the girl scouts and Michael J. Fox. In addition, any scene featuring Leon is hilarious.
At times, the cast veer dangerously close to self-indulgence, especially when Larry and Geoff are bantering, but that's the nature of the series and even seemingly inconsequential dialogue sets up plot developments further down the line.
