The classic romantic verse play does not take kindly to a hole-in-corner black-and-white production, but at the time it was lapped up as a daring cultural breakthrough.
Jose Ferrer won an Oscar for this and it was one of the first movies in verse.The version of the story of Cyrano and his hughe nose, in love with the beautiful Roxanne may appear less atracttive than the 1990 version, but it has another atmosphere, more theatrical that the latest. Ferrer has charisma and it makes you forget the poor technical quality of the film. A nice movie classic of an old story
