[Highly rated reviewer]Cyrus (both the film and the character) is a curious piece of work. Whilst Jonah Hill is an old hand at gross-out teen comedy, this is clearly something of a departure for him, and I have to say he very nearly pulls it off. A little more comedy and/or a little more menace and I think the job would have been done so much better.
The film itself is probably one of the most understated pieces of cinema I have seen in a long while. The extensive use of hand-held cameras tries to create the image of intrusion into this unconventional household.
The plot is simple and somewhat under-developed. Middle-aged slacker (O'Reilly) seeking a new girlfriend, hooks up with attractive single mother, played by Marisa Tomei.
Creepy, clingy. slacker son, the titular Cyrus seeks to spoil their relationship. End of story... roll credits.
Overall, it's a cut above the mainstream, but falls far short of the best of US Independent cinema.

Cyrus gets a brain reductionBy boody (12 reviews) , 09 Oct 2011Dont bother with this one, drivvel, a waste of electricity, dull . pointless un funny, you kept waiting for something to happen,, well nothing does , so look at the list again and pick something else,
Strange and interestingBy a customer , 07 Oct 2011I found this film rather quirky - which I liked!
The relationship between the 3 characters was often quite bizarre but mesmorising at the same time. I loved the way Cyrus played along with John but all the time was working to another agenda.
If you want something kind of amusing/quirkly then go for it.

Pedictable and dullBy Marion (30 reviews) from Cramlington , 13 Sep 2011Just awful.......I rented this because I like to see Marisa Tomei but even she couldn't lift this DULL predicable film. I ended up using fast forward just so I could see the end that I knew was coming.
