I've rented almost the full Dads Army series now and this disc did not disappoint.
Classic comedy involving the Home Guard in World War two.
Includes the classic 'Don't tell him Pyke' Episode where they have to gaurd a group of German prisoners,Absolute brilliance!
Well, it's Dad's Army..... that means it's great. But the best thing about this series is that it includes the classic episode (and my personal fave) 'The Deadly Attachment'. But it's also noticeable for James Beck's absence in the final episode which makes for a touching moment and feels almost as though a member of one's own family has gone. Give it a chance.... you'll love it.
The first disc contains my favourite episode 'The Deadly Attachment' in which a German Submarine crew are held by the Dad's Army regulars until the rugular army are able to collect them. They unexpectedly have to hold them for the night, and provide them with Fish and Chips. The commander puts Mainwaring and Pike into the list in his book. Hodges arrives and is tricked into thinking that the U boat commander is ill. He is captured and held hostage. Wilson's idea of priming the grenades with dummy detonators turns out to be a good one when the Germans put a grenade tied to a piece of string down Jones's trousers.
The plot is well conceived and there isn't a dull moment for the whole of the half hour.
The series was getting close to it's end sadly but the cast did'nt let us down at all!
Still the excellent comedy continued with ( I think ) One more final series after this.
Really enjoyed ever single rental of this series,There's always one you appear you can't remember and the earlier series discs contain the *lost* Black and White episodes,WELL WORTH renting!
Captain Mainwaring is always good for a laugh, with his pompous attitude.
Although all episodes are much the same, they all have a charm about them, and one can watch them time and again without loss of enjoyment.

This is probably as good a comedy series as you can get. I can't wait until series 8 comes out in March 2007
It doesn't matter how many times you watch Dad's Army, but you always notice something new with Mainwaring; a facial expression you haven't seen before or a phrase that he uses that you don't think you have heard before.
Fantastic script writing and acting.
The more I watch Dad's Army, the more funny I find the exasparated expressions that Mainwaring displays. Pure genious.
The only comment I would make is why did they have to have a separate disc 2 for only 2 episodes?
Very funny, worth watching.
Like all the other DVD;s they are true classics, which stand the test of time.
