Glenn Close leads an incredible ensemble cast starring as hot-shot litigator Patty Hewes as she embarkes on the biggest class-action lawsuit in her firm's history. Patty has several weapons up her sleeve - deception, betrayal and unflinching ambition being just a few. The opposition, her team, and anyone who gets in her way had .. Read more

THE SOPRANOS with a law degree
*** Watch this if you like intelligent & twisting storylines. ***
The best new TV drama I have seen since the Wire.
It is excellent value as disc 1&2 contain 5 episodes each of approx 40mins.
I saw this nominated @ the Golden Globes so decided to rent it. Glenn Close and Ted Danson had lead roles, had seen and liked Glenn in The Shield, and Ted in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
After the 2nd Episode I was hooked. Truly an impressive cast, and an addictive storyline. Very intelligent. The pilot pretty much starts to lay out the characters for you, and the basis for how this one case will fill out the whole series. Yes, .this is a whole series about one, high action law suit.
The remarkable thing is that even though this is about lawsuits
we never (and this isnt a spoiler) even get into a courtroom! So if you are put off by thinking its all boring legal court stuff, please dont be. There are so many twists and turns, so many shocks, you will find it hard not to want to watch each episode back -to-back. It doesnt give you any catch-ups at the beginning of each episode. Its up to you to stay with it as it pulls you along through the many characters lives and actions. It does however have a brilliantly clever way of flashing backwards and forwards to give you insight and depth to why each person acts the way they do.
Ted Dansons eyes give a brilliant mystery to him. Is he an evil man, doing what he can to be on top? Or hes good at heart, surrounded by bad advice and equally bad actions?
Zeljko Ivanek is someone I had seen before in prison drama OZ. He plays a magnificent part in this supporting role as a defence lawyer. Again, the brilliant script keeps you wondering what he truly is, good or evil. How he battles with his own emotions towards the end of the series, and the flash backs to what he has done in the past, for me, is one of the best parts as this storyline unravels.
Glenn Close, as I said, I had seen her in a series of The Shield. Another very strong performance from her. I guess the series revolves around her as this always winning cases lawyer. What wouldnt she do to win a case? What lows will she sink to? Can doing wrong really be justified for the greater good?
Will there be a 2nd season? I hope so. If there is then I assume it would be fair to say the ending of season 1 tells us what season 2 will be about. Will there be room for Ted Danson in a 2nd Season?
Damages Series 1 is a compelling 13-part drama based on a highly-confidential and perilous law-suit against a billionaire tycoon.
Glenn close leads a stunning cast who, like the plot, are clouded in mystery and not as first appears. Some of the leading lawyers are so inexplicably two faced it's a enigmatic and riveting rollercoaster through a simularly loopholed and lethal law suit. I am fan of CSI and Lost, but I have never experienced such a brilliantly diverse and executed plot in a long time.
It's difficult to get into at first, but stick with it and enjoy.
when i first heard about this show i just thought it was a typical court room tv show drama.
SOO WRONG!
this shows got more twists and turns than the nurburgring!
its fantastic - yet none of it actually takes place in a court room
glenn close is amazing in this show along with the supporting cast (big shout out to ted danson!)
i have to say this is without doubt the best new show i've watched
Although there are some plot points I am still not clear on this is a must, my only tip is watch them one after the other, its that gripping, I hope they make a second season!!!
Hugely enjoyable. I look forward to the next series.

Brilliant - Nuff Said!
Good, but frustrating because I'm waiting for disc 3 and they've sent a different title!!
Although there are some plot points I am still not clear on this is a must, my only tip is watch them one after the other, its that gripping, I hope they make a second season!!!
I couldn't stop watching, there are a lot of great twists in this series and the story is gripping. Glenn Close puts in a fantastic performance as the sinister Patty Hewes and Ted Danson is also very convincing as the show's villain, Arthur Frobisher. 'Damages' is a must-see!
Probably the BEST (TV) series ever! You never know what to expect next, except an suprise after an other. You want to see them all in one go and then cant wait for the 2nd season. Glenn Close is sooooo good.
Loved it from start to finish!
This series was gripping and kept me guessing until the end. It had enough surprises to stop it getting dull. The plot was quite complicated at times and due to this it really benefitted from being watched in quick sucession. There were moments when I wanted to slap the central character for being a bit wet and not noticing she was being manipulated - but she got more fiesty towards the end so I'll let her off. Glen Close was scarily brilliant as the ice cold lawyer from hell. But her character was well described, with moments when her facade slipped which made her more believable, and ultimatley even more scary! I would definitely recommend watching this if you've got several hours to spare.
