Not a boring courtroom drama - It's intelligent and addictive!By P3t3r (11 reviews) from Enfield , 05 Jun 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]*** Watch this if you like intelligent & twisting storylines. ***
The best new TV drama I have seen since the Wire.
It is excellent value as disc 1&2 contain 5 episodes each of approx 40mins.
I saw this nominated @ the Golden Globes so decided to rent it. Glenn Close and Ted Danson had lead roles, had seen and liked Glenn in The Shield, and Ted in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
After the 2nd Episode I was hooked. Truly an impressive cast, and an addictive storyline. Very intelligent. The pilot pretty much starts to lay out the characters for you, and the basis for how this one case will fill out the whole series. Yes, .this is a whole series about one, high action law suit.
The remarkable thing is that even though this is about lawsuits we never (and this isnt a spoiler) even get into a courtroom! So if you are put off by thinking its all boring legal court stuff, please dont be. There are so many twists and turns, so many shocks, you will find it hard not to want to watch each episode back -to-back. It doesnt give you any catch-ups at the beginning of each episode. Its up to you to stay with it as it pulls you along through the many characters lives and actions. It does however have a brilliantly clever way of flashing backwards and forwards to give you insight and depth to why each person acts the way they do.
Ted Dansons eyes give a brilliant mystery to him. Is he an evil man, doing what he can to be on top? Or hes good at heart, surrounded by bad advice and equally bad actions?
Zeljko Ivanek is someone I had seen before in prison drama OZ. He plays a magnificent part in this supporting role as a defence lawyer. Again, the brilliant script keeps you wondering what he truly is, good or evil. How he battles with his own emotions towards the end of the series, and the flash backs to what he has done in the past, for me, is one of the best parts as this storyline unravels.
Glenn Close, as I said, I had seen her in a series of The Shield. Another very strong performance from her. I guess the series revolves around her as this always winning cases lawyer. What wouldnt she do to win a case? What lows will she sink to? Can doing wrong really be justified for the greater good?
Will there be a 2nd season? I hope so. If there is then I assume it would be fair to say the ending of season 1 tells us what season 2 will be about. Will there be room for Ted Danson in a 2nd Season?

Damages series 1By a customer from London , 14 Jun 2009Excellent series, so much better than anything else out there at the moment. Kept up the suspense for 12 episodes. Can't wait for series 2.
Excellent seriesBy Fleury (4 reviews) from Brighton , 08 Jun 2009I was really keen to watch this series as have heard such good reviews. I was frustrated that BBC2 played it so late in the evening - why do they do that?? Some of us have to get up for work you know! So used my LOVEfilm subsciption to watch the whole series in one go - perfect! I thoroughly enjoyed it and think Glenn Close's acting is superb, so evil!! I would definitely suggest that you watch the episodes in quick sucession as there is no catch up at the beginning of each episode so if you leave it a while it may be hard to remember what has happen previously. Really looking forward to the second series coming out.
DamagesBy a customer from Norwich , 05 Jun 2009Very good. Must be watched with no distractions.
Brilliant!!!By a customer from London , 08 May 2009I would highly recommend to watch Damages. Its very interesting and the time flies when you watch it. The actors are great and the plot is breathtaking.
BrilliantBy a customer from London , 06 May 2009This is very, very, very good. Gripping and heart-stopping with two clever women leading the plot. You are not sure of anyone's motives and the plot has many twists and turns. The writing is excellent and so is the direction/visual drama which takes you into scenes as if from room to room, adding to the intensity and darkness of the story.
Glenn Close is brilliant throughout as Patty, a devilish lawyer, and Ted Danson is excellent as Frobisher, a ruthless businessman. Both of them are multi-dimensional characters, played subtly. The actor who plays Frobisher's lawyer is fantastic also. In fact, the whole cast is worth watching. I'm surprised this series isn't more famous in the UK, and I can't wait to see whether they can continue to be this good in the second series. It's a real challenge to keep an audience gripped when not one character is really 'likeable' but this series pulls it off.
