slightly kitsch yet also unique and definitely 'feelgood'

Dancehall Queen

Genres Drama
Run time 97 mins Certificate 15

9th November 2010

On the one hand this film is occasionally kitsch, over-sentimental, and even verging on the absurd. On the other hand, it gives a powerful individual performance from Audrey Reid, and most importantly, a very different take on notions such as 'female empowerment', etc etc....oh, and some quite cool scenes involving dancehall artists like Lady Saw and Beenie Man. So yeah, definitely worth putting up with the dodgy use of 'emotion music' and things like that.
