A liberal Western Ð the Indians (or Native Americans) are the good guys Ð sentimental and over-long, but nonetheless affecting. A version of 'the director's cut' was promised for videocassette, with a running time of 240 minutes.

good in 1990 still good in 2011
I watched this when it was first on the cinema and it is still as good now. Really enjoyed it this time round on dvd. Very good story, worth watching.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is not infallible. Sometimes the wrong films win: Citizen Kane lost to How Green Was My Valley. Apocalypse Now lost to Kramer vs Kramer. Raging Bull lost to Ordinary People. Goodfellas lost to Dances with Wolves. Pulp Fiction lost to Forrest Gump. And Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash. But at least all those losers were nominated.
