The florid, fruity novels of Danielle Steel are either your cup of beachside rum punch or they are most defiantly not. The former camp will love this frothy melodramatic confection, taking in cataclysmic world news (the sinking of the Titanic) and reducing it to a facile excuse for showing us yet another of Steel's strong, brave and exceptionally turned out women battling the odds. The cast has been wheeled out on castors, including Simon MacCorkindale, and it runs through its hand-wringing paces as if the script is being relayed by hidden short-wave radio. But Danielle Steel does have her fans and by the million. If you're one of them, this is for you.
An enjoyable sunday afternoon film.
A good old fashioned romance tinged with tragedy that remains quite faithful to the book.
The only downside is it does have the look of a made for tv movie.
Grab a box of tissues and some chocolate, sit back and enjoy!
