Solid family entertainment based on Roald Dahl's popular novel. Jeremy Irons and his real son Samuel play a happy single-parent family in the 1950s who go head to head with obnoxious squire Robbie Coltrane over poaching and ownership of land. Samuel saves the day in a well-observed comedy drama in the Ealing style, with fleshed-out characterisations provided by a great supporting cast of British actors.

I held back tears reading the book to my daughter, and this film does the book plenty of justice. Irons senior and junior are brilliantly cast, with baddies suitable comic-book. You should buy this one and keep it forever
I love watching this film, and I,ve been waiting ages for it to come out on dvd. With Jeremy Irons as Danny's father and his real life son Samuel Irons as Danny, this film is perfect for all ages, although I thought the first scene where it shows men shooting the pheasants unnessary! Also I liked the documentary on the making of the film. ( Its a shame there isn't more extra's on the dvd) All in all one to buy!
