The reason for my heading is that yet again the BBC has turned out a gem in the lesbian genre. Other companies out there should look at their formula and realize why it works - simply put it is not all about sex for a movie to be classified as lesbianism. I'm a huge fan of period drama sort of movies and this definitely fits that category. The storyline was unknown to me and thus fascinating, the acting as everyone agrees was superb (I agree about McTeer) and again, although the scenes again could be more intense it doesn't distract from the overall beauty and impact of this movie. Well worth the watch whether you are gay or straight and let's hope the BBC brings out the next one soon!

A really interesting film that keeps you guessing. The historical aspects are well placed for a situation that could easily occur in the modern day.

  • A 30s movie

This movie shows us the eternal hunt of human love. A very good expression of the 'I want what I can't have' and how some people can't have what it's offered and how sometimes they don't let go what's offered. All this in the 30s environment.

This turgid BBC drama is only enlivened by the occasional reasonably sexy lesbian love scene.

Enjoyed this film, abit slow in parts but on the whole a great film representing the massive struggle to be yourself in an era where certain things were unacceptable for women. Daphne shows the struggle of a blatant lesbian trying to live the life that she is pressurised by society to lead but also getting to partly live the life that she wants due to her success as a writer. This film deals with unrequited lesbian love in a marvellous way and also deals with the sorrow of losing a lover and only realising how important they are once theyve gone.

Would recommend this film to anyone with an interest in the themes above.
