Two grieving parents occupy a remote cabin as they try to get over the death of thier child. Spooky goings on soon start to happen with plenty of tried and tested ghost scares along the way.
This film tries to scare with the ghostly female presence but never quite pulls it off in the same leage that the japanese have the ghost films down to a tea.
May be worth watching at night with the volume turned up!!!!!! You may get a scare or two but these would be more of the jump in your seat scares opposed to the scares that stay with you in bed in the dark at night (Ie like the grudge or the eye)
Dark Remains is a fairly simple and clearly budget horror, thriller, it is fairly slow moving and, like many others have commented on, it is not clear why the certification is set as 18, there is no gore, the language is free from swearing and there are no rude scenes to speak of. The story is of a couple who move to the country to get their lives back on track following the death of their daughter, an idea that is fine in principle however they soon learn that the cabin they have picked has a spooky past. As earlier mentioned this is not a shock horror filled with gore, the tension and few scary moments that exist are built through the atmospheric sounds and dark scenes, both of which were actually quite good. Sadly the good work on the settings and sound is somewhat undone by weak acting and largely one dimensional characters, that said for a low budget thriller I have seen a lot worse. There are one or two jumps, a little tension and a few twists, fans of the slow moving, thriller style horrors might well enjoy, but for us this did not have enough for us to recommend to others. Average at best. 4/10. 2 Stars.
