Wow, what an atmospheric and genuinely creepy film. A mother in the middle of a custody battle moves into a run down apartment block with her 6 years old daughter. She starts seeing things like a little girl who apparently lives in the flooded apartment upstairs but who disappears whenever she gets hear. The scares come from everyday things like a purse that keeps turning up even though it has been thrown away several times and a leak in the ceiling that gets worse as the film goes along. The tension builds as the mother is convinced forces are working against her to show her up as a bad mother to the shocking conclusion. I wonder if the American remake, currently being filmed with Jennifer Connelly in the lead, will be half as good.
