It more or less covers the same ground as the original, but this direct-to-video sequel is just as dynamic and fast-paced as its predecessor, with director Bradford May taking more than a few leaves out of the Sam Raimi style book. Arnold Vosloo — wrapped in bandages in 1999's The Mummy — takes over from Liam Neeson as the synthetic mask-wearing Dr Peyton Westlake, battling his resurrected nemesis Durant (Larry Drake) who has taken over the city's rackets with the help of a hi-tech ray gun. The formula is 1940s pulp fiction with a twist of black comedy and some superior special effects, but it all works like a charm in this effective reprise. Darkman III: Die Darkman Die followed in 1996.
"...Stays true...to Raimi's playful visual riffing....Hip spirit..."
If you have seen Darkman you should definently rent this film.Although the storyline and budget aren't as good in this film it's still a worthy sequal to the Sam Raimi classic. The storyline is great and is pretty easy to follow:-Durant has been in a coma since the events of the first film and awakens to find his drug and money empire have almost been destroyed by the lackings who took over the business while Durant was M.I.A.Durant decides the only way he can reclaim the city as his is to make an even more powerfull weapon than people are buying but one man wants to stop him and that man is darkman.Of course Darkman is still trying to perfect his liquid skin formula so he can be normal again! The only complaint I have about this film is that Liam Neeson is no longer playing darkman who is now known as the probably unknown Arnold Vosloo who to my mind hass only been in two other decent films Darkman 3 and the Woo/Henriksen/Van Damme film Hard Target as a henchmen. All in all though a worthy rental for the action fan!
I really enjoyed this and saw it before the first darkman which is probably why i prefer this film to the first. As for Liam Neeson being replaced i don't think it mattered as i saw the first darkman and his acting was awful,so the new guy was fine by me.Completely over the top movie and Larry drake is great as the evil durrant.
