DisappointingBy a customer from Surrey, England , 19 Jun 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Disappointing, improbable story of World War 2 romance. Misuse of Julie Andrews' talents. Over long!

[Highly rated reviewer]I LOVE Julie Andrews. I love Rock Hudson. I love musicals, fabulous sets, costumes and scenery, pictures about the war and Blake Edwards-style silliness.
But I did NOT love this film.
It took 3, 4 maybe even 5 viewings to get through it all; I fell asleep a couple of times, at another, simply found the chipping paint on my walls more interesting - and only finally made it through after getting up early one morning and forcing myself to backtrack through what I'd missed and make it to the end so that I could finally post it back.
The only lingering highlight for me is the lone scene where we got to see Julie's lovely red hair cascading down her back, rather than its usual pinned up primness. Oh, and the little old planes were nice to look at.
I don't know if it was me or it, but it just didn't happen for me, leaving me disappointed in both myself and the film.
Rubbish ... i want that couple of hours back!!!By a customer from Oldbury , 10 Nov 2009Rubbish,
Poor, Miss Andrews is of course brilliant but even she cant hang the shamful pieces of this 'film' together.
Best bet is to rent the sound of music or mary poppins again... you no were you are with the classics.
A great film for flying nutsBy a customer from Loanhead , 06 Jul 2009I watched this largely to see the airplanes rather than watch the drama, but I found the film was very enjoyable. Julie Andrews is fine in the lead role and Rock Hudson does his romantic comedy bit with style. Lance Percival was good too!
What a load of rubbish.By a customer from Cheshire England , 26 Sep 2007I cannot believe that Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards created this film.
What was it supposed to be - 'a send up' a 'romance' or what? I can't believe I watched it until the end - probably because I could not believe
what I was seeing.
The only reason I am giving it one star is in recognition of Juliie's lovely singing voice ..
A Forgotten Gem!By a customer from Lancashire , 15 Jul 2007Unjustly criticized this is actually a very fine film. Beautifully and lavishly produced with a great score from Mancini. It was totally unappreciated at the time of its release. Musicals were simply out of fashion. It ruined Julie's film career for a good few years which was not helped by her non-appearance at the London premiere of STAR! (her greatest film performance) due to over-scheduled shooting of Darling Lili in Ireland. However it is well worth renting and has quite an intriguing plot. Do not miss it!
