Harrowing story of a U-Boat patrol in the latter stages of the war in the Atlantic when things began to go wrong for U-Boats as Allied counter measures began to bite. Despite their reputation driven - in part - by the Allied propaganda machine, the film portrays superbly the personal courage and gritty endurence of those U-Boats crews. I remember when it was first shown on TV in UK, it was hugely popular with very large audience ratings Despite the fact they are 'the enemy' to us Brits, the film is honest and realistic about the realities in a U-Boat without germanic jingoism. Only for those with more than one brain cell, its not a film full of non stop action scenes yaddie yadda. Its an intelligent film that immerses you in the U-Boat alongside the crew. Brilliantly made film, but only watch it if you are prepared to think, analyse and deduce - if you are not you'll hate it, its not for Action Morons
