A 'Googlewhack', for those of who you haven't played the game. is a two-word search on Google which leads to only 1 result. Dave Gorman didn't know this until an e-mail told him that his website contained a googlewhack. Intrigued, he begins to play and when a friend bets him that he can't meet, in person before his 32nd birthday, 10 googlewhacks in a row, Dave (inadvertently) sets off round the world on his quest.
A wonderfully written and delivered monologue (with a slideshow) is the result. Very, very funny and, importantly, with a big heart. We begin to share his obsession and the highs and lows of his journey. It really is captivating and like all good stories it makes you want to hear it again with soemone who doesn't know what comes next. Marvellous stuff.
Absolutely loved this DVD. Takes a little while to get going, but Dave Gorman shows his absolute mastery of his craft. Bizarre tales of bizarre people, highly amusing illustrations and animations, all held together by a ceaselessly witty - and, all-importantly, coherent - commentary from Gorman. The man is very skilled with his words... although in a couple of places the f-word predominates, as Dave gets a bit emotional. I guess he's entitled to, it's his life he's talking about after all!
Even if you're a bit put off by the title, I urge you to rent this DVD. You'll be surprised. And is his story true? I'm guessing, like all good tales, it's at least based in the truth. But who can resist a bit of embellishment here and there?
