Good clean fun!!!By a customer from London , 10 Aug 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]You may think good clean fun is awfully boring... but after a rotten day at work to come home to a warm hearted movie about a real guy who becomes president - especially with mr Bush in the whitehouse - was a joy.
I laughed out loud, i even started to think what if it really happened...?
Good clean fun, with plenty of laughs!!

Excellent; Sigourney Oddly CastBy CashOnTheNail (130 reviews) from Manchester , 13 Mar 2008Cool-dude Kevin Kline [Pink Panther, The] runs a recruitment agency; listening to his clients woes & leveraging them into short-term employment. Supplementing his income as an impersonator of the US President Kevin is recruited by the Secret Service to appear at a hotel function. The real president falls into a coma & Kevin agrees to stand-in, only to become a thorn in aide Frank Lagella [Superman Returns] side
in a class of its ownBy MrPicky (31 reviews) from Oswestry , 04 Nov 2007Corny as it sounds, this is just a LOVELY movie. Part romantic comedy, part satire on the state of American politics (and America itself), and part feel-good movie, it doesn't fall into any category. It rises above them all.
The plot is wonderful, and so skillfully handled it can give us the romance while, at the same time, political intrigue building to a climax. Sharp dialogue by the ton but, as often as not, the crucial moments are left to facial expressions, telling us far more than words could say.
The menace of Frank Langella almost steals the show but what man, over the age of 40, could fail to adore Sigourney Weaver? For Kevin Kline, the role must have been an invitation to be the kid in a sweet shop: Two parts to play, and both of them a treat, for us as well as him.
Like all good films, Dave is top-notch entertainment. For me, it's November . . . and time to watch it again. I only wish I got this much better with age. One of my all-time favourites.
Dave and the American presidencyBy Bob Harrold from Stotfold, Beds , 01 Oct 2006Whilst I can readily appreciate other reviewers' views that this is a nice, pleasant, well made comedy I felt it had more to it than that and it had some pertinent things to say about the politics of the White House and the USA. Kevin Kline gave an excellent performance in the starring role, backed by Sigourney Weaver who gradually warmed as the President's wife from an ice cold relationship with the 'old' president to a loving one with the 'new'. Lookalikes and doubles have long been a fact in real life (Monty had one in WWII to outfox the Germans and that made a good film, Saddam Hussein had a number to lessen the chances of being assassinated and medieval kings had knights a'plenty dressed in their armour and coats of arms for a battle) so the basic premise was more possible than it first seems. The denial of a President's true condition has also long been the subject of spin (Eisenhower was suffering from a severe heart attack which was announced as stomach upset). So it did tell us something of the difference between what actually happens in politics and what we are told is happening and a lot about the machinations at the centre of power. The preponderance of image and personality instead of policies and ability forms the bedrock of this film. Very watchable with engaging characters, a very good script and a story well told that never dragged, I even gave up some of Match of the Day to see how it turned out! The ending was entirely plausible and so very well rounded with all loose ends tied off rather than just a 'happy' one. Not a brilliant film but certainly a very good one and well worthy of a viewing.
