(9)History presented in a contentious way
By TimmyTankTop (6 reviews) , 28 Feb 2013I must admit that I'm not the greatest lover of 'costume' history with re-enactments and dramatisations but I really think that the producers got this just about right. Both my wife and I really enjoyed this series finding that it struck that fine balance between not being too deep or too shallow, and it was enhanced by the superb presenter, David Starkey. I suspect that historians will be sniffy and dismissive of this populist method of presentation. I would liken it to Classic FM vs. Radio 3. The purists see it as almost heresy. A good and informative presentation
By trainbuff (34 reviews) from Waterlooville , 09 Dec 2010David Starkey makes a good effort at presenting the information about Henry VIII's six wives. The programmes must have cost a fortune to make as the costumes are excellent.
I found David's presentation a bit stodgy at times, hence only four stars rather than the five that it deserves.
