A more expensive remake of George A. Romero's horror movie that is just another example of Hollywood consuming its past for no good reason; there's no life in these zombies even though they can move at speed.
The original Dawn of the Dead (1978) was a colourful mix of social commentary, black humour and gory effects work.... read more on Time Out
Well, it's called Dawn of the Dead and there's a shopping mall in it but that where the simularity between this and the 1978 original stop!
This is a good film! there's no doubt about that but what got me the most is that i've been watching Zombie films for years and they just do not run! they kind of wibble along like pensioners after a heavy nights drinking session on 'Wicked strength' lager! BUT!!!! in this new D.O.T.D. the run about.. NO! sprint about looking for a nice chewy victim! Thats my only gripe!
Watch this film, don't take it too seriously and you'll enjoy it! there's some good ideas in here; armour plated buses with 'oops!' mind that chainsaw! and 'Sniping the stars' from the rooftop! It's all good!
If you haven't seen the original then do so as it's good to compare!
The first 3 minutes of this film are horrific. The direction, acting and effects completely capture the panic stricken streets of America as the zombies take over.
After those first adrenaline pumping minutes of horror the movie slackens off and never really recovers the momentum. If it did, the horror would probably have overloaded my brain and I'd be a jabbering inmate of the local lunatic asylum.
Positive points
Awesome introduction
Great effects and direction
High quality
Negative points
Pace slackens off after first few minutes.
Overall the best Zombie movie I've ever seen, partly because the zombies run. It injects new fear into an overdone genre.
Don’t believe the hype! “Visionary” director Zack Snyder, as the marketing would have it, has filmed Alan Moore’s “unfilmable” graphic novel by treating the comic book panels as his storyboard and his bible. Doesn’t it bother anyone that this is about as far from the definition of “visionary” as it’s possible to get? The visionary sees what others do not see. Mr Snyder – whose previous films were a remake (Dawn of the Dead) and... Read more
