  • British as a chip butty, Shane Meadows is just about as tasty (and probably about as good for you). His A Room for Romeo Brass is one of the underrated gems of the last ten years - read more »

as it says on the cover ' one of the best british films in years'

in fact i think i would probably go as far as saying, this is one of the best films i have seen in years.....full stop. now i understand its not going to be everyones cup of tea, but for those out there who like a great film with some good old fashioned brit-grit watch it! it's one of those films where you dont quite know what to do with yourself after it. i mean i watched this film and thought it was great 3 days after watching it, i thought it was amazing - reason being, i kept on thinking about it, it kept on coming back into my head, i think i was a bit traumatised by it to be honest, but if that isnt the sign of a good film i dont know what is.

full of grit and grim, very good acting, and a bit of humor thrown in....watch this!

who writes the radio times reviews

Dont listen to the muppet who writes the reivews for Radio Times. First of all this is more of a western that once upon a time in the north. The whole suggestion that this is some sort of horror/slasher flck is absurd. Yes there is a high body count but what do you actually see, there is very little screen blood or gore. This is a film about revenge on a par with the Korean Old Boy. The whole man returns to take vengence on his brothers tormentors is pure western. It also play well as a sort of british gangster film far more realistic than the uttern nosensce that Guy Richtie pumps out as 'aufentic lanndon wide boys' running round in crombie coats with shooters wrapped up in dusters which I find about as realistic as I imagine his pamaered country house life is with madonna . This film has a real sence of life in Britain and that's what gives it its edge. Obvioulsy this element would be lost on the standard London-centric film critic class and really makes you wonder who's being perocial.

This is a great film, fantastic central performance which is well acted, its believeble, particulary the twist at the end which brings the whole thing into sharp focus and there is no pat ending allowing for a clean get-away or some other such nonsence.

Absoulutly bloody brilliant. Unless you are some cappachino 'grim up north london' type in which case I would imagine you find this as relevant as Peruvian ciniema, which to be frank you probably do find relevant because thats the sort of thing you probably watch to make you feel inteigent and it allows you to say, 'yes Peru, I was there on my gap year'. Hey next time you go 'travelling' just remember that exsotic suggests somewhere most people would not go to, so for you lot that would actually be Bolton not Austrialia.
