Classic Video Nasty
By Jack Sewell from Midlands, England , 04 Jun 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
In the small coastal town of Potters Bluff, the locals had a strange way of treating visitors. This involves killing them in an unpleasant way, nice. Apparently the director meant this to be a black comedy, personally I can not see how myself. Besides being dated, as most early 80's horror films are, this has so much to offer, and it was on the original video nasties list too.
Who cares if the plot resembles The Stepford Wives, it's atmospheric, gory, creepy and well worth the rental.- Was this review helpful to you?

(42)dead or alive, what's the diff...
By juradino (811 reviews) from London , 30 Aug 2011Law enforcement takes on different kind of spin in this horror that reminds me most of Fog. Nobody is who they seem, but death brings everyone to life when they get to burial stage. No cremations in this spoof or black comedy but plenty of morbid photography. Frightening or shocking not now, but apparently they tried to promote it by calling it video nasty. Laughable by today's standards so watch and see if soundtrack matches lips.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Wasafterwatchingit (24 reviews) , 30 Aug 2011Well it was 1982 i suppose but i can think of a few much better films than this from that era.. ok for a laugh though it has that typical twist at the end. and the head grabbing with arghhhhh in it which never promoted any film really..wouldnt recommend it though bit naff ...- Was this review helpful to you?

OK. Not much to write home about.
By VFF (105 reviews) from London , 15 Oct 2010I remember reading the book of this film years ago. I quite enjoyed the book. I remember it being more surprising and engaging than this film. It is a bit poorly lit and a bit lacking in real suspense.
Not terrible or really good either. I would recommend reading the book instead.- Was this review helpful to you?

Dead and Delightful
By BarbarellaFembot (2 reviews) from Birmingham , 18 Sep 2010Dan (James Farentino) is a sheriff who is dedicated to his job preserving law & order in quaint coastal town Potters Bluff. Leaving the big city behind he has set up home with his wife in a town that makes Cabot Cove look over populated. Written by the team behind Alien, this 1981 thriller is a cracking little film that captures the kitsch foggy atmosphere typical of most good 1980s horror. It starts with gruesome violence that nicely offsets the pleasant aura of a small town that owes much to Stephen King.
Every new twist in the film is paced wonderfully, with small disclosures leading up to the grand reveal, which is an absolute corker. This delightful little film is both violent and charming yet still manages to be eerie. It also features an early performance by Robert Englund (of Nightmare on Elm Street fame) & is well worth a look.- Was this review helpful to you?

Show it some respect
By a customer from Newcastle , 10 Jun 2010I wasn't expecting this to look as good as it did on release, which is the last time I saw it. I thought they might at least have got the sound in synch, though. Apart from sounding atrocious (with no choice of track) after the first few minutes, the dialogue is all out of synch. This is not the restored version I hoped it was.- Was this review helpful to you?
