Better written and directed than almost anything coming out of Hollywood...the most ambitious TV Western series ever made...a muddy, bloody epic
Deadwood is hideously beautiful...extraordinary...HBO have surpassed themselves
Almost too tempting, deadwood, deadgood. Set at the time of the US goldrush just after the massacare at the Little Bighorn, this brings the US to (sometimes appaling) life. Fantastic performances - you would not believe Ian McShane could do it, language so fruity you could start a greengrocers, and some very strong scripting.
Brutal, witty, provoking and, at times, Shakespearean in it's dialogue and intrigue. Ian McShane was amazing - good enough even to make up for his past crimes as Lovejoy. I can't speak highly enough of this show. Yes there was quite a bit of swearing, but far less than your average episode of, say, Southpark or a night out in your town centre, and used as an integral device to sustain the atmosphere and stories, rather than simply used for shock value. A fantastic series.
