Not bad, but this type of movie has been done better
Although Paul McGann and Rebecca de Mornay are the top billed stars, the best acting performance is by Derrick O'Connor, as the boss of the whizz-kid dealing room at a highly respected city Bank. He's been around the block, seen it all, and lives by his wits. He portrays a character whom many people believe, in real life, is the archetypal city dealer - flash, hard living, hard drinking, always wheeling and dealing, and gambling the bank's currencies in a reckless manner. In reality, especially after Baring's and the Nick Leeson affair, this type of character didn't last long after the yuppie 80's, and they have been replaced by serious analysts and computer programs. Many of these previously very high earning ex-yuppies are now street market traders or cab drivers. McGann and de Mornay are not really believable as the two star dealers - she brought in from the States to be his boss as the bank tries to redeem massive trading losses. The trouble is, their trading styles are completely different, she is cautious and analytical, whilst he is a gambler. However, they soon feel a mutual attraction to each other ... a recipe for trouble. It's not a bad film in its way - the trouble is this type of movie has been done better, for example Wall Street and Rogue Trader (the Nick Leeson story).... read more »
