This has to be one of the best Movies I've watched in a while. Very good, acting is great, characters are superb and Ryuk the Death God looks fantastic. If you love ther series, you are guaranteed to Love This.

(58)Great film indeed... something a bit different...
By SiSlayRD500 (132 reviews) from Solihull , 07 Oct 2012I thought this was a great film indeed.
It's a mixture of Horror (not graphic), Drama and Fantasy and overall it is also quite an original / different type of film compared to many.
I found it amusing, engaging, a little unusual and totally enjoyable! - I'll be watching the sequel (also meant to be very good) ASAP.
Definitely recommended if you want something a bit different (not for those that DON'T get on with subtitles).- Was this review helpful to you?

Read the manga and watch the anime instead... Seriously.
By a customer , 21 Aug 2012As a massive fan of the franchise, this film really disappointed me. It was lazy, and frankly I won't be bothering with the sequel as I'd rather not see my favourite series butchered further. Light Yagami is supposed to be tall and handsome, Misa Amane is supposed to be blonde. How hard would it have been to put a wig on her?- Was this review helpful to you?

Is it just me?
By a customer from Barnet , 02 May 2012I could only see one line of the subtitles and gave up after less than ten minutes. I think I'll try the Manga version, which generally seems to have received more favourable reviews anyway.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not great, but not bad.
By onion (314 reviews) from leeds , 10 Mar 2012Firstly, it's a bit too long. 90 minutes is more than enough for most films. Especially blockbuster types. This isnt one, (perhaps it is in Japan) but still, it does drag a little. Its still not a bad film though.
Theres a lot of good ideas, and it does hold your interest (just). But this is another occasion where a western remake might not be such a bad idea.
I'm not all that keen on remakes. Unless they improve on the original. But this film needs to be remade. And, hopefully shortened. Some great ideas are almost wasted on this.
Worth a rent though.- Was this review helpful to you?
