I wanted to warn people about the beginning of this film - the wife is brutally raped and killed by a group of villans and as this was the first rape scene I saw years ago it had a huge shock factor. It is violent in parts but a classic still! Great film.

the original harry brown. abit dated now and a little slow but still a good film. not every film has to be action packed, swearing and blood an guts. simple straight forward film following a simple guy on a revenge mission. i now want to re watch the rest

Death Wish is a gritty crime thriller about Paul Kersy, played by the late great Charles Bronson. An architect living in New York, although he's lucky enough to live in the nice part of time and is able to avoid the mean streets. Tragically, a couple of street punks follow his wife and daughter back to their apartment, sexually assault them both and kill his wife. The police work on it but can't do anything, so he takes the law into his own hands. Actually, he goes outside the law, to be accurate. The police and government hate him for it, but the local community think he is a hero. And I think so too. I guess one of the messages in the film is that people are tired of cops sitting on their fat arses and not doing something about the crime rate. This is a good crime film and something I highly enjoyed. It's great to see good old Charlie clean up the streets of the scum. It's very nasty and violent, and gory as well, but it's a great flick, and a classic piece of American cinema. I highly recommend it, two thumbs up.

I saw the film in 1974 and then it was all action now it appears a little slow in comparison with new films, the dialogue is a little slow and stilted. It is a film that recognises something in us that we would all like to do and have imagined we would do when a minor or major event in our lives frustrates us. How many times have we wanted to ram or shot the driver in the car that cut us up at the traffic-lights. How many times have we thought about accosting the person that pushed us aside in a crowd with out saying excuse me. We would love to take out a gun and shot them though we do not because we know that you cannot dispense this level of justice without causing anarchy

Unjustifiable exploitation of rape scenes with very little on the plus side to rate a favourable review.

tough day at work?want to chill out without taxing the brain too much? in that case, try this. the good guy shoots lots of bad guys, and, er, that's about it.

but charles bronson was never meant to be cerebral.
