I don't usually submit reviews for films but in this case I wanted to make an exception - save your money. This title only got on to my selection list by some kind of mistake but - having received it - I thought I'd give it a try. It wasn't worth it.
The time passes along and the whole thing is competently acted - but you will not care about one single person or one single event in this film. The 'twists' and 'turns' are so predictable that you'll see them coming from a mile-off.
It's an American's eye view of a 1930's farce updated in the most superficial of ways and without any meaningful insight in to this country nor modern family dynamics. It is shallow, trite and boring.
Please don't bother.
Now, I like a laugh.
No, really I do.
And I would have loved one in this. Unfortunately, despite some great comics involved, and not least the wonderful Frank Oz, this was a terrible let down. It was like a Carry On film without the subtle humour, a Ray Cooney farce without the Shakespearian nuances.
In short, about as funny as a funeral.
