Wonderful and revelatory

This was not an opera I knew at all well. But this is a revelation. On a par with Les Troyens and Tristan und Isolde in its psychological and musical depth. Alison Hagley is especially wonderful. The sets,, though evoking some criticism, are fine. The opera is essentially all about emotional and mental processes and benefits from the spare sets.
