I went to see Delta at the ICA in London, and I was truly blown away by it.
I really couldnt fault it. Every camera shot in the 96 minutes was so well thought out, everything was so photographic, and the Hungarian landscape really helped to make this a beautiful film to watch. Long drifting shots of the terrain were accompanied perfectly by a sparse but intriguing soundscape. The acting felt awkward, however, I wonder if this intentionally gave another level to the film that was present due to the troublesome situation the two lovers found themselves in.
I tend to look at (and like) a film for everything it is, rather than everything it is not. And this is perhaps why I love this film so much. Yeah all these reviewers are slating it for being a slow film. But I think theyre just focusing their attention on the wrong things, or are too busy with restricting their vision in a way. Another main gripe that people have is with the lack of depth concerning the characters background but I really dont think Delta needed to give anymore than it does.
The film ends perfectly, at just the right time with a vicious sting in its tail. I really dont think there was anything in the way of story, or explanation that could have been added to make it better.
I think this film really works if you dont spend the whole time over-analyzing it, whilst just letting it do its thing. If all these negative reviewers spent their time focusing on the stunning Hungarian topography, the fantastic soundtrack and the beautiful story then perhaps they would enjoy it as much as I did.
ghastly, slow and no point what so ever.
