San Angeles, a megalopolis stretching from Santa Barbara to San Diego, is the futuristic utopia of the politically correct. Red meat, salt, sugar, smoking and sex have all been outlawed. This spells h-e-l-l for John Spartan, a 20th century cop revived to chase down a 20th century terrorist on the loose in this sterile paradise. Read more

This pretension-free, futuristic thriller comes pretty close to being Sylvester Stallone's best ever picture. Wisely keeping his tongue stuck firmly in his cheek, Stallone plays a tough cop whose unconventional methods land him in a cryogenic prison. Decades later, he is defrosted to hunt down an old sparring partner, the spectacularly psychopathic Wesley Snipes (complete with blond thatch), who has escaped from his deep frozen state and is creating havoc in the now crime-free Los Angeles (renamed San Angeles). The writers have a lot of fun sending up modern-day political correctness in this caring vision of the future — violence, red meat and sex are among the items on the banned list — and director Marco Brambilla delivers the goods when it comes to the all-important action set pieces. Of the supporting cast, Sandra Bullock has an early run at a role she would later perfect in Speed, Denis Leary gets to deliver one of his thinly disguised stand-up routines, while Nigel Hawthorne plays the doctor overseeing this 21st-century Utopia.
An exciting adventure, clever and violent, that has fun at the expense of a sanitized future, complete with the President Schwarzenegger Memorial Library, and also indulges in self-parody without compromising the action.

a completely original story which see's stallone being brought forward to a totally none violent society in which swearing, smoking and even sex is illegal. he is perfectly out of place here but it's the let down of a very camp style bad guy played by snipes (US Marshalls) although it is worth watching for the ever wonderful Sandra Bullock (Speed) if you haven't seen this then it is worth watching but I would advise it does contain strong language and violence.
Ah, Demolition Man - what a great movie. Every time I see it I sit there with a big stupid grin on my face for the whole thing.
Sly is perfect, Snipes has immense, infectious fun as the villain, and Sandra Bullock has rarely been so likeable. In between the slam-bang fight scenes, there're a good deal of amusing jokes about political correctness and Sly's own macho image.
The one false note in the whole thing is the underground community of 'Scraps' led by Denis Leary, who does his (by now rather tired) non-PC schtick. It sort of makes sense but looks like a Mad Max fan convention.
Still, six stars - put your brain into neutral and enjoy the ride.
It is the future, and it sucks. As with many post-apocalyptic films, someone has taken over and forced everyone to live a 'serene' and 'peaceful' life by basically banning fun. Everywhere is clean, crime-free and smiley. However, you are fined for doing anything out of the norm and sex requires no physical contact (!).
Suddenly the utopia is rocked by the unfreezing and subsequent escape of a 'super criminal' (Wesley Snipes) who was cryogenically frozen in the 20th century for terrible crimes. The police, who have not fought crime for years, realise that their only solution is to unfreeze a suitable cop...enter Sly Stallone a.k.a. the Demolition Man.
This film is great. Yes, it is corny and horribly predictable but hey, the one-liners can't be beaten and the fight scenes are superb. The acting is light-hearted and there are some wonderful futuristic touches.
But I still wonder how the three sea shells work...

This movie may appeal to sci fi spoof fans. It is funny in places that is clearly not intentional. Violence and action abound as does the bad language which invokes a computerised swear box in this too near future world of San Andreas. The camp cops are the butt of plenty of visual gags. Watch out for the prediction of Arne S. running for president (made in '93!). Sandra Bullock fans will enjoy this for sure. Worth a watch.

It's a classic action film.
Wesley Snipes is cast in his perfect role and is brilliant in this film, and along with Stallone, provide lots of fantastic fight scenes. The Story may be a bit far fetched considering it doesnt look too far into the future, but that doesnt take anything away from this film.Sandra Bullock is also great in this film, and provides many very funny moments. It is a brilliant film which gets the balance of action and comedy just right, and is a must for any fan of good films

This is a basic action film. Where good guy goes after bad guy. Snipes is cool and funny which actually saves the film from being bad. If you like Wesley Snipes check it out.
I had to rent this just to see it again in DVD format, and I wasn't disappointed. The storyline is decent enough and I think the performance given by Wesley Snipes is one of his best. This is a great Saturday Night action movie, and one that I will still want to watch in another 10 or 20 years
Sandra Bullock, Sly Stallone and wesly Snipes team up in this good guy Vs bad guy in the future film. All action.
clever ideas perfectly executed to produce a high flying action spectacular which can be compared to the likes of terminator and harry potter respectively
i love this film, its great, i know its a cliche of an action film and completely predictable but i just think snipes plays a fantastic badguy and stallone and equally brillant good guy, a must see for anyone looking for a saturday night blockbuster.
